What is a traffic study?

A traffic study is an engineering investigation to evaluate transportation systems. The study is a means of identifying and documenting any deficiencies or improvements, both operational and physical, necessary to accommodate current or projected traffic volumes. A study typically consists of collecting data, projecting traffic volumes and identifying the improvements required for a transportation system.

Why is this traffic study being undertaken?

Yavapai County is completing this study to build off previous efforts to improve the Williamson Valley corridor. This study will be used to program improvements into the County’s capital improvement program for safety, capacity, access, and mobility along the corridor. Preliminary engineering design will be completed on the corridor to assist in applying to additional outside funding sources for these improvements.

How will my input be taken into consideration?

The feedback you provide on the survey and interactive map will help our team understand the current problem areas along this segment of Williamson Valley Road, and allow us to take steps to address them. Your feedback is an important step to ensure areas are properly analyzed for potential corridor enhancements.

Once the traffic study is complete, what happens next?

The traffic study and preliminary engineering design that will be generated as part of this study will help guide future project programming for the County and better support our efforts to seek additional funding for these improvements

Will there be public meetings to discuss this traffic study further?

Yes! We plan to host multiple public meetings in 2026. More information about the dates and details of those meetings will be published in the future.
